MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The NC State men's golf team completed the first day of action at the 2017 General Hackler Championship on Saturday. Through two rounds of play at The Dunes Golf & Beach Club, the Wolfpack currently sits 15th among a challenging tournament field.
Sophomore Stephen Franken had the Wolfpack's strongest day on Saturday, shooting scores of 72 and 74 to end the day with a 146 (+2) and tied for 19th in the field of 84 golfers. NC State shot a team score of 300 (+12) during the first round of the tournament and shot a 303 (+15) in the second round to end with a cumulative score of 603 (+27).
No. 15 Wake Forest leads the tournament through two of three rounds, having shot a combined score of 561 (-15). No. 14 Kent State (571, -5) and No. 9 LSU (573, -3) rank second and third.
The Dunes Golf & Beach Club proved to be quite challenging on Saturday, as the average score from the 168 total rounds was a 74.65. Franken had a strong day, with both of his rounds (72 and 74) coming in below this average.
