RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State men's tennis team will officially open its NCAA/ITA fall season this weekend at the Duke James Bonk Invite at the Cary Tennis Center. Sean Burnette, Georgiy Malyshev, Igor Saveljic and Michael Ogden will all compete at the tournament. The matches will mark career debuts for Burnette and Malyshev.
Duke is hosting the tournament and welcoming individuals from NC State, Elon, Auburn, VCU, Valparaiso, Radford, North Carolina, Wake Forest, North Florida, Florida and Charlotte.
The tournament is divided into three singles and two doubles draws, as well as a round robin doubles format. The athletes will play at least three singles matches and two doubles matches.
NC State's four singles players are divided between draws. Malyshev will face the four seed Catalin Mateas of Duke in the opening round of the white draw. Saveljic will open with Nick Stachowiok of Duke in the blue draw. Burnette and Ogden will both compete in the black draw with four-seed Burnette facing Radford's Samuel Taylor in the opening round. Ogden will play Duke's Andrew De Joy in his first match.
In doubles action, Burnette and Saveljic will take on Vincent Lin and Mataes in the opening round of the double blue draw, while Ogden and Malyshev will compete in round robin play and face Charlotte's Alejandro Garcia Moreno and Sam Rice.
Play is slated to begin Friday at 12 p.m. at the Cary Tennis Park.
