Highlights
ATLANTA- The NC State men's swimming and diving team opened the 2016 NCAA Championships inside Georgia Tech's McAuley Aquatic Center Wednesday evening with a second-place finish in the 800 freestyle relay.
The team of Simonas Bilis, Ryan Held, Justin Ress and Soren Dahl posted a school and ACC-record time of 6:09.58, while Bilis' leadoff split of 1:32.02 additionally stands as a school and conference record.
This marks the second-straight year that the Wolfpack has finished at the runner-up spot in the event. Texas captured the title, but the team's championship time broke the previous NCAA record and garnered the four swimmers first team All-America honors.
NC State will continue competition at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta Thursday. The team will return to action inside the McAuley Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. for prelims and finals are set for a 6 p.m. start, as live results and stream will be available for both sessions. Heading into the second day of competition, the Pack sits in second place with 34 points.
