Barber Drops 26 In Battle At Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM - Anthony 'Cat' Barber scored 26 points and dished out seven assists but the NC State men's basketball team was edged 77-74 at Wake Forest on Sunday night.
Maverick Rowan added 13 points and Caleb Martin grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds. Cody Martin totaled eight points, eight rebounds and seven assists with no turnovers. Wake Forest was led by Devin Thomas's 20 points and 11 rebounds. Bryant Crawford added 17 points and six assists.
13-0 WAKE, THEN 21-4 PACK: A defensive battle in the first half saw Wake Forest take a 27-25 lead at halftime, and a couple of Demon Deacon 3-pointers and a lay-up by WFU's Thomas saw the home team's lead grow to 40-25 ith 16:01 left in the game. The Pack stormed back, playing its best basketball of the night. A 21-4 run that featured four Wolfpack 3-pointers gave NC State a 46-44 lead. Wake Forest (10-5, 1-2 ACC) scored the next six points and would not trail again.
EVERY GAME IN WINSTON A BATTLE: As most rivalry games tend to go, Sunday night's game marked another epic battle between the two in-state foes. The Pack (10-6, 0-3 ACC) has dropped its last four games at Wake Forest, with the total margin in the four contests being 10 points.
SECOND HALF SUCCESS: NC State shot 54 percent in the second half after a 29-percent mark in the first 20 minutes. Rowan and Abdul-Malik Abu combined for 22 points in the second half after scoring just two in the first half.
UP NEXT: NC State return home Wednesday, Jan. 13 when it hosts Florida State at 9 p.m. The game against the Seminoles will be shown on the ACC Network stations, including WRAL-TV in the Raleigh area.
