State Places Fifth of 15 Teams at Schenkel Invite

STATESBORO, Ga. - On the second day of action which featured two rounds of play instead of one due to an impending storm, the NC State men's golf team placed fifth at the 2015 Schenkel Invitational. State was in fourth following the first round, dropped to ninth after the second, but rallied with a very strong 276 (-12) in the final round to improve to fifth in the field of 15 teams.
Through three rounds of play at Forest Heights Country Club, the Pack shot a score of 847 (-17). Aside from the 846 achieved at the 2014 Wolfpack Invitational on NC State's home Lonnie Poole Golf Course, this was NC State's best score of the season.
Tying for fifth with ACC foe Wake Forest, NC State finished ahead of six Golf Stat top 50 teams at the tournament: UAB (39), North Florida (26), Iowa (41), Florida (36), Louisville (40), and Mississippi (47).
Carter Page and Stanhope Johnson led the way for State, shooting scores of 210 (-6) to tie for 16th in the field of 90 golfers. Both student-athletes carded matching 68s (-4) during the final round of play. With their scores of 210, Page and Johnson both set career bests at a 54-hole tournament. Page recorded an eagle during the second round, shooting a three on the 511-yard par five seventh hole.
Just two strokes behind his leading teammates, David Cooke tied for 24th with a three-round score of 212 (-4). Cooke was very consistent throughout the tournament, shooting 70-72-70.
James Chapman (T54) and Jacob McBride (T72) rounded out State's participation at the tournament, carding scores of 219 (+3) and 223 (+7), respectively.
NC State will return to action on Sunday, March 29 at the Hootie at Bulls Bay. The three-day tournament will be played at the Bulls Bay Golf Club in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
