
Cross Country Begins Season With Team Wins at Wolfpack Challenge

CARY, N.C.- The NC State men’s and women’s cross country teams opened their 2014 campaign on Friday at the 21st Annual Wolfpack Challenge. Both the men’s and women’s teams came away victorious, and on the women’s side Joanna Thompson took home the individual honors with a time of 16:57.0.
The men posted a score of 20 points, while the women tallied 21 points.
Meet Highlights
-This marks the fifth consecutive year the men have come away victorious. The women have won the Wolfpack Challenge three of the last five years.
-14 runners from the men’s squad finished in the top 16.
-Redshirt sophomore Sam Parsons lead the Pack with a time of 14:32.1 to not only finish second in the individual standings, but to break the course record. Graham Crawford (14:42.7), Sebastian Hanson (14:42.7) and Sam Roberson (14:45.2) rounded out the top 5 on the men’s side.
-From the women’s squad, four runners finished in the top four in the individual standings. Behind Thompson, Megan Moye and Erika Kemp both ran a time of 17:17.3 to capture second and third place. Freshman Mary Grace Doggett ran unattached with a time of 17:23.4 to finish fourth.

The Wolfpack will compete next when the squads travel to South Bend, Ind. for the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 3. The women will run the 5k race and the men will run the five-mile race at the Warren Golf Course.
