Dempster, Mudge Advance to Doubles Quarterfinal at ITA Regionals

CARY, N.C. – The duo of Robbie Mudge and Ian Dempster of the NC State men’s tennis team played their way into the quarterfinals of the doubles draw Saturday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional at Cary Tennis Park.
Notables
- The ninth-ranked pair of Dempster and Mudge won their second consecutive match in a tiebreak, as the tandem defeated Kaue Periera and Philipe Tsangarides of Coastal Carolina, 8-7 (5). The dynamic duo of Mudge and Dempster will play South Carolina’s team of Andrew Adams and Kyle Koch in the quarterfinals.
- Mudge also advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles draw after defeating South Carolina’s Thiago Pinheiro, 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-4. In the quarterfinals, Mudge was defeated by top-seeded Brayden Schnur of UNC-Chapel Hill, 6-2, 6-4.
- Austin Powell saw his tournament run come to an end in the round of 16, as he was defeated by Duke’s Nicolas Alvarez, 6-3, 6-4.
Up Next
Two rounds of doubles are scheduled to be played on Sunday, as well as the singles semifinals beginning at 10 a.m.
