Ouellette's Season Highs Highlight Meet at Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Junior Stephanie Ouellette scored a season-best 39.050 in the all-around competition and 9.875 on floor exercise, as the NC State Wolfpack posted a final team score of 194.600 at the Comcast Center on Friday night. State finished second at the meet behind No. 17 Maryland with a 195.100, and ahead of New Hampshire (193.300) and Towson (192.250).
"I thought the team did well tonight," said head coach Mark Stevenson. "We have a couple things here and there that we need to clean up, but overall I thought the gymnasts performed really well. We still have to get over some nervousness, but we'll keep working to get better."
The Wolfpack started the meet on bars, posting a team score of 48.550. Senior Rachel Fincham paced the group with a 9.775 to claim third place. Ouellette and freshman Brittni Watkins posted the next best scores for the Pack in the event with 9.725s. Junior Kristen Harabedian and freshman Michaela Woodford recorded a 9.675 and 9.650, respectively.
Junior Hannah Fallance tallied the highest score on the balance beam for State with a 9.725, which was good for third place. Woodford registered a 9.7, while Ouellette notched a 9.650. Harabedian scored a 9.625 and Diahanna Ham recorded a 9.550 to headline the Pack's scoring in the event. The Wolfpack turned in a team score of 48.250 on the apparatus.
On floor, Ouellette was rewarded for her performance with a season-best score of 9.875 to tie for third in the event. Ham posted a 9.8, while Woodford scored a 9.775. Harabedian and Watkins recorded the other two scores counted in the Pack's total with a 9.750 and 9.575, respectively. State ended with a 48.775 on floor.
"Stephanie was great for us tonight," said Stevenson. "I thought she may have had her best meet of the season, highlighted by her routine on floor."
State posted its highest team score of the night on vault with a 49.025. Watkins led the way with a 9.850 and was followed closely by Fallanca with a 9.825. Ham and Ouellette scored 9.8s, while senior Morgan Johnson notched a 9.750.
Ouellette's score of 39.050 in the all-around, claimed a share of second place.
NC State will return to action at the Sweetheart Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum.
