Weber, Mudge Advance to Doubles Final at ITA Carolina Regional

RALEIGH, N.C. – The tandem of senior Sean Weber and junior Robbie Mudge of the NC State men’s tennis team advanced to the finals of the doubles competition on Sunday at the USTA/ITA Carolina Regional Championships at Cary Tennis Park.
On the day, Weber and Mudge captured two wins in the tournament quarterfinals and semifinals.
Playing as the 10th-seed in the tournament, Mudge and Weber earned their way to the semifinals with an 8-6 victory over the seventh-seeded pair of Hunter Harrington and Dominique Maden of Clemson.
In the semifinals, the Pack duo downed 11th-ranked and top-seeded Michael Redlicki and Jason Tahir of Duke, 8-4. Weber and Mudge captured a break in the first game of the match to take an early 1-0 lead, before going up a second break to take a 5-2 advantage.
In the finals, Weber and Mudge will play Rafael Aita and Sam Williams of UNC Wimington, with the winner advancing to the ITA National Indoor Championships Nov. 7-10 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Monday’s doubles final is slated to begin at 10 a.m. at the Cary Tennis Park.
