WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Led by Jess Panza’s third place overall finish, 25th-ranked Pack gymnastics placed sixth at the 2011 EAGL Championships Saturday.
NC State (8-14, 6-6 EAGL) posted a 193.450 at the league championship, a disappointing total that represents the squad’s second-lowest of the season.
Panza’s third place all-around finish marked a highlight for NC State, as the junior totaled a 39.250 to take All-Tournament first team honors. In addition, Panza notched first team mentions for vault, bars, beam, and floor, placing no lower than eighth in any event, and leading the Pack in each rotation.
The New York native’s 9.85 vault tied a career-best and landed Panza in a tie for fifth. Panza captured another 9.85 and fifth place finish on floor, a 9.8 on beam for fourth, and a 9.75 on bars for eighth.
Freshmen Hannah Fallanca and Stephanie Ouellette scored first team recognition for their beam and floor routines, respectively. Fallanca finished sixth with her 9.775, while Ouellette matched Panza’s 9.85 on floor.
Ouellette also landed on the all-around second team with a 38.075. Freshman Diahanna Ham was the only other Pack gymnast to receive an all-tournament mention, finishing second team on vault with her 9.8.
The Pack now awaits the possibility of an NCAA Regional invitation, which would be released on Monday afternoon.
