Softball Takes Down Buffalo

ATHENS, Ga. - NC State softball (5-3) earned a victory over Buffalo (1-7) this afternoon in the Pack's third game in the Georgia Softball Classic in Athens, Ga.
Morgan Peeler started the game for the Wolfpack in the circle, giving up one run on four hits and striking out two in six innings of work.
Alyssa Ishibashi and Caitlin Dent each went 2-for-3 in the victory, and Dent and Alyssa Allbritten each gathered two RBI for the Pack.
NC State got on the boards in the bottom of the second inning when Bethaney Wells led off the frame with a single and was moved to second by a nicely placed Alicia Abbott sacrifice bunt. Dent then stepped to the plate and smashed a double, driving in Samantha Melton, who was pinch running for Wells. Breanna Andrews followed with a sharp ground ball to score Dent, giving the Pack a 2-0 lead.
Ishibashi started the third inning with a base hit and was driven home by Allbritten, who ripped a double to extend the NC State lead to 3-0. Later in the inning, Wells lifted a sacrifice fly to plate Allbritten and make the score 4-0 in favor of the Wolfpack.
The Pack struck again in the fifth, catalyzed once again by Ishibashi, who led off the inning with a triple. Two batters later, Allbritten sent a fly ball deep to the outfield, scoring Ishibashi on the sacrifice fly to give NC State a 5-0 lead.
Buffalo made the score 5-1 in the top of the sixth inning, when Jessica Griffin lined a single in to right field to score Ashley Bertot.
Abbott drew a walk in the bottom of the sixth inning and was replaced by Kirstin Morris, a pinch runner. The next batter, Dent, ripped a double in the gap to score Morris and increase the Pack advantage to 6-1.
In the seventh inning, Jade Hennig came on to replace Peeler on the mound, and sat down the Bulls in order to preserve the Pack win by a score of 6-1.
The Wolfpack return to the field tonight in Athens, Ga. against Winthrop at 7 p.m.
