NORFOLK, Va. - NC State swimming and diving swept Old Dominion on Saturday, Jan. 29, with the men winning 163-136, and the women grabbing a 194-99 decision. Brandon Kingston won three events for the men, while four different women won two events each.
The Wolfpack men move to 6-2 (3-2 ACC) on the year, while the women climb to 7-2 (3-2 ACC). Old Dominion's men slip to 6-3, while the women slide to 8-5.
Marifrances Henley, Jennifer Kopenitz, Julianna Prim and Hannah Hopkins each won two events for the women's team, combining for eight of the team's 13 first-place finishes. Henley captured the 1650 freestyle with a 17:21.21, before grabbing the 500 freestyle with a 5:04.22. Kopenitz won the 200 freestyle (1:54.03) and the 200 backstroke (2:03.59), while Prim collected both the 200 butterfly (2:04.05) and the 100 freestyle (52.17). Hopkins swept all diving events, including the 1-meter (276.53) and 3-meter (268.58).
Allison Hendren's 24.04 was tops in the 50 freestyle, while Jessica Ward's 2:18.28 was the standard bearer in the 200 breaststroke. Zina Grogg won the 100 butterfly (56.70), Kelsey Liu took the 400 IM (4:27.67) and Prim, Erica Waters, Hendren and Meghan Thompson finished the evening by taking first in the 200 freestyle relay (1:36.96).
Kingston hit the finish line first in the 1650 freestyle (16:13.48), 200 freestyle (1:41.11) and the 500 freestyle (4:37.98), while Barrett Miesfeld won the 100 butterfly (50.24) and 100 freestyle (45.97). Mike Seiferth's 1:53.32 was best in the 200 butterfly, while Miesfeld, Jonathan Boffa, Kingston and Conor Brennan used a 1:24.78 to collect the 200 freestyle relay.
Chris Arcara and Hudson Rains each won a diving event, with Arcara taking the 1-meter on a 292.05, and Rains winning the 3-meter with a 327.90.
NC State will host Virginia next Saturday, Feb. 5. Action is slated to begin at 11 a.m. at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center on campus.
