Softball Drops First Game at Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – A big bottom of the sixth allowed Campbell to erase a 2-0 NC State lead for a 4-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday, March 10.
Lindsay Campana (8-3) struck out 11 and allowed just one earned run in the loss. Christina Melton (2-4) got the win for the Camels.
Alyssa Allbritten got the Wolfpack started with a solo shot to center in the first, her third on the year.
Stephanie Call extended that lead with her team-best eighth homer of the year, another of the solo variety, in the top of the fourth.
Four hits and two crucial errors built a four-run bottom of the sixth for Campbell. Taylor McGee sent an RBI single into left, and an errant relay throw allowed a second run to score. Robin Leathers later put the Camels ahead with a two-run single that ricocheted off of Alyssa Ishibashi at second, moving the score to 4-2.
Three of the Camels runs were unearned.
Alicia Abbott smacked her first home run at NC State down the line in right in the top of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.
NC State and Campbell will begin game two immediately.
