COLUMBUS, Ga. – NC State softball lost its first game at the 2010 NFCA Leadoff Classic to Illinois State (10-0) on Friday, Feb. 26. The loss moves the Wolfpack to 6-5 on the year, while the Redbirds climb to 6-3.
Landon Warren, Alyssa Ishibashi and Breanna Andrews all had hits for NCSU.
Morgan Peeler (1-3) took the loss for the Pack, allowing six earned runs. Linzy Rother tossed one inning in relief. Megan Warner (4-0) got the win for ISU.
The Redbirds busted the game wide open with a 10-run fourth inning. Abby Olson dropped an RBI double into right-center, and Peeler issued three free passes with the bases loaded to move the Illinois State lead to 4-0. Rother then took Peeler’s place in the circle, eventually allowing an Olson grand slam. Kara Nelson later added a two-run single to right.
NC State will take on No. 24 UMass at 6:30 p.m.
