NC State freshman Laura Hoer's winning streak was snapped, but the Wolfpack freshman still managed to finish 21st Monday at the NCAA Cross Country Championships to earn All-America honors. In the men's race, junior Ryan Hill repeated as All-America by finishing 22nd.
The NC State men finished 20th overall. That marked the Wolfpack's 20th finish in the top 20 in the last 26 years, dating back to 1984. The NC State men have finished out of the national top 20 just four times since 1995.
The NC State women finished 24th, marking the 24th top-25 finish by the women in the 30 years since the NCAA began crowning a women's national cross country champion in 1981. The women have failed to finish in the NCAA's final top 25 just five times since 1981.
Both races had repeat team champions with Villanova winning the women's race and Oklahoma winning the men's.
For the NC State men, Hill finished the 10k course in a time of 30:19.0. Redshirt-freshman Andrew Colley was 56th at 30:39.4, with redshirt-junior Bobby Moldovan posting a top-100 finish at 97th in a time of 31:08.7. In the women's race, Hoer finished the 6k course in a time of 20:36.6. Junior Andie Cozzarelli finished 52nd at 21:01.7, and was just eight seconds off All-America pace.
Hoer, who won four of NC State's previous races this season, becomes the 41st All-American in the history of the NC State women's program. She is the 10th freshman in the history of the NC State cross country program to become All-America and the first since Bona Jones in 2006. Hill is the 24th All-American in the men's program.
NC State has produced at least one All-American, men's or women's, every year but five since 1977. The Wolfpack has had at least one All-American on either the men's or women's roster, or both, every year since 1977.
