
Gymnastics Takes Second at George Washington

Washington, D.C. - The NC State gymnastics team brought home a second place finish at the George Washington Invite Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. The Wolfpack (13-6) scored a 191.925 in its final regular season road meet of the year. California won the meet with a 192.225, and host George Washington was third with a 191.025. Sophomore Leigha Hancock was the Pack's top performer on the day, winning both the vault and floor titles. NC State will host the final home meet of the season this Friday night, when EAGL foes George Washington, Maryland and New Hampshire all come to Reynolds Coliseum for a 7:00 p.m. meet.
The Pack performed well on vault, having four gymnasts finish in the top-five, and posting a team score of 48.525. Hancock won her first career vault title with a 9.8. Junior Rachel Katz was second with her 9.75. Junior Katie Ozburn and sophomore Heather Zolton tied for fourth with their scores of 9.7.
On bars, NC State finished with a team score of 48.300. Junior Amanda Jones and sophomore Kelsey Lee tied for the Pack's top score, each with a 9.8 and tied for fifth place. Freshman Elyse Adams was seventh with her 9.75, and Katz placed eight with a 9.725.
NC State had trouble on beam, scoring only a 46.475. Hancock was the Pack's top finisher, scoring a 9.6 for second place. Senior Kylah Bachman was close behind in third with a 9.575. Jones also finished in the top-five, with a 9.525 for fifth.
The Pack's highest team score on the day was a 48.625 on floor. For the third straight meet, Hancock won the floor title. This time she scored a 9.875, and it was also her fifth floor title this season. Freshman Ashley Shepard was close behind, with a 9.8 for second place. Jones scored a 9.7 and took sixth, with freshman Dru Davis in 10th with a 9.625.
