Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team fell to Fairfield in double overtime Saturday afternoon in the Pack's first game in the 2005 Adidas/Wolfpack Classic being held at Method Road this weekend. The Wolfpack struck first with a goal from senior Aaron King in the 66th minute, but Fairfield's Aldo Hope answered only five minutes later. The game then went into overtime, and with only 1:10 left in the second overtime period, Fairfield's Vasilis Androutsos netted the game winner. In the day's first game, Elon defeated Mercer 2-1 in overtime.
The two squads played to a scoreless first half, with NC State winning the battle in shots 18-10. The Pack would have its best scoring chance 20 minutes in, as junior Rami Ghanayem's long ball from the back sprung King for a breakaway. King failed to score though, as his chip shot over the Fairfield keeper just went over the crossbar.
King would come back and score at the 65:33 mark. The play started with sophomore El Hadj Cisse winning the ball on the Pack's defensive side of the field and finding junior Laye Traore on the left wing. Traore would dribble into the box, and play a low cross over to King for the score. It was King's second goal in as many games.
The Stags answered with a goal of their own at the 70:25 mark. Sam Bailey beat an NC State defender down the left wing and his cross into the box found Hope for the score. The two teams would end regulation tied at 1-1.
Just as it appeared the game would end in a draw, Fairfield wont he game with a last minute goal. Ed Meyer played a long ball up to Androutsos at midfield. Androutsos would dribble all the way into the Pack's penalty box and his shot found the back of the net to end the game at the 108:50 mark.
NC State ended up outshooting Fairfield on the day 18-10. Pack keeper Jorge Gonzalez recorded four saves, and the Stags' Andrew Frankel had eight saves.
NC State turns right back around to finish the Adidas Wolfpack Classic. The Pack will host Mercer on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. The first game of the day will be Fairfield against Elon at noon.
