Norfolk, Va. - The NC State men's soccer team opened its 2005 season with a 2-1 loss at No. 22 Old Dominion Thursday night in Norfolk, Va. The Monarch's Trevor Banks put ODU up 1-0 with his first half goal. NC State then came back with a goal by senior Aaron King, but only 18 seconds after the Pack tied the game ODU's Banks would strike again for the decisive goal. NC State would play the final 28 minutes of the game with only 10 players, as freshman Ronnie Bouemboue received a red card.
Old Dominion would score the only goal of the first half, as Banks used an assist from Edson Elcock at the 34:42 mark. The Monarchs would go into the half up 1-0.
NC State would tie the game with King scoring an unassisted goal at the 51:52 mark. Just as NC State evened the score, ODU retook the lead. Banks second goal of the game was off an assist from Jared Kent at 52:10. That goal would prove to be the gamewinner.
The Pack was outshot in that first half 7-1. NC State would turned the offense on in the second half, despite playing over 15 minutes a man down. The Pack would put seven shots on the ODU goal in that second half, forcing keeper John Connelly to make three saves. NC State keeper Jorge Gonzalez also ended with three saves.
NC State turns right back around and will return for the first home action of the season on Saturday and Sunday, as NC State hosts the Adidas Wolfpack Classic. The Pack will host Fairfield on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., and then Mercer on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. Both of those games are scheduled to be held at Method Road, and both games are the second of a doubleheader of soccer on the day.
