Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team picked up an impressive 1-0 victory Saturday night in an exhibition game. Senior John Queeley would score the game's only goal just before the half, and the Wolfpack defense pitched a second half shutout for the impressive win. The game was the Pack's final exhibition game, as NC State opens its 2005 season at Old Dominion on Thursday.
Queeley's goal would come at the 43:27 mark. Sophomore Jonathan Bui started the play with his throw-in to classmate El Hadj Cisse deep in the left corner of the field. Cisse would dribble into the box and his shot was deflected to the right of the UNCG goal. Queeley came streaking into the box, and his shot was uncontested into the corner of the net for the eventual gamewinner. NC State outshot the host Spartans 11-6 in that first half, and Pack keeper registered two saves.
Coming out of the half, NC State only left in the four starting defenders and went to its bench. Keeper Aaron Sanders played all 45 minutes of the second half and was credited with seven saves. Central defenders Hugh Cronin and Ronnie Bouemboue and outside defenders Rami Ghanayem and Haddon Kirk all played the full 90 minutes for the shutout.
NC State opens the 2005 season this Thursday at Old Dominion. The Pack will be in home action this Saturday and Sunday, hosting the Adidas Wolfpack Classic.
