
NC State Gymnastics Finishes Sixth at NCAA Regionals

Gainesville, Fla. - The NC State gymnastics team finished in sixth place with a team score of 193.575 at the 2005 Southeast NCAA Regionals held at the University of Florida Saturday night. The host Gators (196.575) and Georgia (195.150) each advanced to the NCAA Championships. Denver and North Carolina tied for third with scores of 194.075, while West Virginia placed fifth with a 193.675. Junior Kylah Bachman led the way for the Pack. She had a fourth place finish on beam with a 9.85, and scored a 39.050 in the all-around.
After having a bye to open the meet, the Pack started on floor and came away with a team score of 48.425. Senior Cori Goldstein turned in NC State's top showing as she finished with a 9.775. Junior Kylah Bachman (9.75) and freshman Leigha Hancock (9.7) were close behind Goldstein for top honors for the Pack. Rounding out NC State's scoring was freshman Heather Zolton with a 9.675 and sophomore Amanda Jones with her 9.525. After all teams completed their first rotation, the Pack was fifth overall ahead of conference foe North Carolina.
NC State moved right over to vault and finished with a team score of 48.375 to give the Pack a score of 96.800 through two rotations. NC State was consistent on vault, with all six gymnasts scoring between a 9.6 and 9.7. Bachman and Zolton each finished with the Pack's top score as they notched a 9.7 apiece. Hancock was close behind with her 9.675, while Jones and senior Krystal Hairston each finished with scores of 9.65. After all teams went through two rotations, NC State moved ahead of No. 5 Georgia and into fourth place overall.
After sitting out its second bye, NC State was up on bars. The Pack had to count a fall and finished with its lowest team score of the night, a 47.875. Bachman once again led the way for NC State with her team high score of 9.75. Seniors Andrea Petrocelli and Jennifer Gray each recorded scores of 9.675. Amanda Jones added a 9.575, while Zolton and sophomore Rachel Katz each fell on bars and tied with a 9.2 apiece. With the fall on bars, the Pack fell to sixth place after all the teams completed three rotations.
NC State finished the meet on beam, and notched its highest team score of the evening, a 48.900. Bachman had the highest NC State finish of the evening, as she placed fourth on floor with a score of 9.85. A trio of NC State gymnasts all scored a 9.775 and finished in seventh place; Goldstein, Hancock and Jones. Petrocelli rounded out the scoring with her 9.725.
In the all-around, Bachman finished sixth and just missed advancing to the NCAA Championships as she scored a 39.050. Also in the all-around, Jones added a 38.525 and Zolton had a 37.500.
