Gymnastics Claims Win at North Carolina

Chapel Hill, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team recorded its highest score of the season, a team score of 195.500 at North Carolina Sunday afternoon. The Pack (11-3-1) scored at least a 48.850 on all four events on the day, and claimed individual titles on both bars and beam. NC State's score on Sunday was an improvement for the score the Pack posted against UNC Friday night, in a home meet, by over an entire point.
The Pack would start the meet on Sunday strong, scoring identical team marks of 48.850 on both bars and vault. On bars, a pair of freshmen tied for the event title. Both Heather Zolton and Kelsey Lee put together scores of 9.825 to tie for the top spot. Junior Kylah Bachman took fourth with her 9.775. Sophomore Rachel Katz was seventh with a 9.725, and senior Andrea Petrocelli scored a 9.7.
On vault, freshman Leigha Hancock and Katz tied for the team lead with scores of 9.8 as they placed second. Sophomore Amanda Jones was fifth with her 9.775, while Bachman finished sixth with a 9.750. Freshman Laurie Singer and Zolton each had a 9.725.
On floor NC State scored a 48.825, and finished the meet with its highest team score of the day, a 48.975 on beam. Katz was NC State's top finisher on floor, as she placed fourth with a 9.85. Jones and Bachman each tied for sixth with their scores of 9.775. Rounding out the scoring on floor was Lee with a 9.725 and Hancock with a 9.7.
Bachman, who also won beam on Friday night, once again won the beam title. She scored a 9.875 for the second straight meet. Petrocelli and Hancock were close behind with their scores of 9.825 for a second place showing. Jones scored a 9.75, and senior Cori Goldstein had a 9.7.
Both Bachman and Jones competed in the all-around for NC State, as Bachman finished second (39.175) and Jones was fourth (38.925).
The NC State gymnastics team will compete at Georgia next weekend.
