
Gymnastics Wins Hearts Invitational

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team won the annual Hearts Invitational with a season-high team score of 195.400 Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum. The Wolfpack (10-2) remained undefeated at home this season, as Iowa was second with a 193.925, George Washington was third with a 193.475, and William & Mary scored a 188.250. NC State counted no falls the entire meet, and posted season-highs on both beam and floor.
The Pack started out on vault, and came away with its second-highest vault score this season, a 48.600. Sophomore Rachel Katz once again was NC State's top performer on vault with her score of 9.825 for third straight vault title this year. Freshman Heather Zolton placed sixth with her score of 9.75, and junior Kylah Bachman took eighth with a 9.725. Rounding out the scoring for the Pack on vault was freshman Leigha Hancock with a 9.675 and senior Cori Goldstein with her 9.625.
NC State moved over to bars and made a slight increase from their vault score with a team score of 48.675 on bars. Sophomore Amanda Jones and freshman Kelsey Lee tied with the top score each notching a 9.775 and placing third. Zolton was close behind with her 9.75 for fifth, while Petrcelli took 10th with a 9.7. Katz was the Pack's final scorer with a 9.675.
In an event the Pack has struggled on this season, beam was no problem on this night. NC State would have all five scores going for at least 9.85, and finish with a team score of 49.350. Senior Andrea Petrocelli set a new career-high with a 9.9 to win her first beam title of the year. Both Goldstein and Hancock were close behind in second place with their scores of 9.875. Bachman and Jones each posted a 9.85 to tie for sixth.
NC State would finish the meet strong, notching a season-high team score of 48.775. Goldstein was NC State's top floor performer once again, with a score of 9.85 to place. Goldstein won floor for the third straight meet, and has won floor in four of the five meets this year. Both Bachman and Zolton finished with scored of 9.75 and tied for sixth. Rounding out the scoring was Katz with a 9.725 and Jones with her 9.7.
Bachman finished second in the all-around with a score of 38.475.
The NC State gymnastics team will travel to conference rival New Hampshire next weekend. The Pack will return to Reynolds Coliseum, Feburuary 25, to take on North Carolina at 7:00 p.m.
