Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team shut out visiting Temple 1-0 Sunday afternoon at Method Road. The two teams battled through a scoreless first half, and NC State's Federico Peria notched the game's only goal in the 62nd minute to push the Pack's record to 3-0 on the season. This is the first time NC State has won the first three games of the season since 1997.
Neither team scored in the first 45 minutes, but there were plenty of chances as NC State recorded nine shots to the Owl's six shots on goal. Peria nearly broke the scoreless tie in the 17th minute as his shot hit the upper cross bar. Temple's Nick Ebersole then came right back down the field and put a hard shot on net, only to be denied by NC State's Jorge Gonzalez.
Peria recorded the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute. Peria stole the ball from an Owl defender and found himself one-on-one with Temple's keeper Patrick Hannigan. Peria slotted the ball into the lower left corner of the goal for his third score of the season.
NC State's Gonzalez earned the shutout with his five saves. For Temple, both Tony Pratico and Hannigan played 45 minutes and each recorded two saves.
The Wolfpack will return to action this weekend by playing in the Adidas Tournament hosted at Duke. NC State will take on Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday at 5:00 p.m., then face Columbia Saturday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
