
Track Competes in Penn Relays

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State track & field squad traveled to the Penn Relays this past weekend, the biggest track meet of the season for the Wolfpack. The Pack came away with many top results, including victories in the men's 3,000 meter steeplechase and in the women's 3,000 meters. In all, NC State brought home seven top-10 finishes in this prestigious meet.
Andy Smith, fresh off an ACC victory in the 3,000 meter steeplechase last weekend, once again won that race. This week he ran a NCAA regional time of 8:43.20. James Rowell also notched a NCAA Regional mark, with his in the discus, after he threw 176'08" for fourth place. In the 5,000 meters, it was Allen Bader in 19th (14:47.40) and Stephen Furst in 20th (14:52.43).
Julia Lucas brought home a first place finish in the 3,000 meters with her time of 9:26.78, while Renee Gunning finished fourth in that same race (9:40.22). Ebony Foster finished third in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.18, yet another NCAA Regional time for her. Felicia Fant took 12th in the 100 meters (11.69), also a NCAA Regional time. The women's 4x100 meter relay team also notched its fourth NCAA Regional time of the season, as they placed 12th in 45.67. Josianne Lauber took seventh in the 10,000 meters running a 35:35.18, while Erin Swain was 19th in the 5,000 meters (17:16.48). Kelly Smoke had a busy weekend in the throws, bringing home seventh in the discus (147'09"), 15th in the shot put (43'10"), and 21st in the hammer (159'11").
A handful of athletes also traveled to Tennessee on Sunday to compete in the Knoxville Invitational. Sheena Dawkins came away with a third place showing in the long jump with a top mark of 19'04.25". Teresa Reed was fourth in the pole vault (11'03.75"), while Laila Thomas placed fifth in the high jump (5'04.25").
