
NC State Gymnastics Wins Hearts Invite

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State gymnastics team scored a 195.575 and won the annual Hearts Invitational at Reynolds Coliseum Friday night. Utah State finished second on the night with a team score of 194.350, William & Mary was third scoring a 193.175, and Rhode Island placed fourth with a 190.825.
The Wolfpack (9-3) started the evening on vault and came away with a team score of 48.800, just missing their top mark of the season by 0.025 of a point. Junior Molly Pennington, the reigning EAGL Specialist of the Week, notched her second strong vault score in as many weeks. Pennington finished first on vault with a score of 9.9, the second straight week she has gone over the 9.9 mark and won vault. The rest of NC State's scores on vault we all close together. Junior Cheryl Potacco scored a 9.775 for fourth place. Classmate Leah Sabo scored a 9.75 for fifth, and freshman Kylah Bachman was seventh with a 9.725. Senior Adina Stock and junior Alison Bundy tied for 12th, each notching a score of 9.65.
NC State moved onto bars and improved its score with a team score of 48.825. Senior Marlyn Madey had NC State's top score on the day, a 9.875, and won bars for the first time this season. Sophomore Kelley Kello and Stock each notched a 9.8 and tied for fifth place. Senior Stephanie Southard, competed for the first time this season because of injury, notched a 9.7 for 10th, and Potacco was 13th scoring a 9.65.
On beam, NC State finished with a team score of 48.725. Senior Cara Dougherty led the way for the Pack with her first place finish and a score of 9.875. Sabo scored strong as well, with a 9.8 to place third. Bachman was sixth with a 9.725. Kello scored a 9.675 for 10th, and Madey was 12th with her 9.65.
The Wolfpack finished the meet strong on floor, notching a team score of 49.225 and not counting a score below 9.825. Sophomore Cori Goldstein finished the Pack's floor routine strong with her score of 9.875 and she tied for first. Madey and Sabo each notched a 9.85 and tied for third. Seniors Dougherty and Stock tied for seventh with a 9.825.
Junior Leah Sabo placed third in the all-around for NC State with a score of 38.675.
NC State will travel to conference foe New Hampshire for a meet next Saturday. The Wolfpack will be back in home action February 28 when NC State hosts Illinois State, Minnesota, and North Carolina in the Wolfpack Invitational.
