
Men's Soccer Falls in ACC Opener to #10 Maryland

Raleigh, N.C. - The NC State men's soccer team fell in its ACC season opener to #10 Maryland 3-0 Sunday afternoon at Method Road. The Terps (4-1, 1-0 ACC) used a penalty kick in the first half and two late scores to notch the road win over the Wolfpack (1-4, 0-1 ACC).
After playing most of the first half scoreless, Maryland broke through in the scoring column. Abe Thompson dribbled down into the NC State penalty box and was taken down resulting in a penalty kick. Thompson netted the PK in the 43rd minute to give Maryland the 1-0 lead.
The lead would stay the same through most of the second frame, then Maryland picked up two goals in the final six minutes of the contest. Maryland's second score of the game was by Nino Marcantonio who took a A.J. Godbolt cross and scored his third goal of the season in the 85th minute. Just under two minutes later, Maryland's final goal was scored by A.J. Herrera off an assist from Domenic Mediate.
Maryland keeper Noah Palmer recorded the shutout in goal making four saves on the day. NC State's Mitchell Watson was credited with eight saves on the day.
NC State will return to action this Wednesday, when the Pack host Charleston Southern at Method Road at 4:00 p.m..
