
Men's Soccer Downs Charleston Southern in Overtime

Raleigh, N.C. - Behind three goals by freshman forward Aaron King, the NC State men's soccer team defeated Charleston Southern 3-2 in overtime Wednesday afternoon at Method Road Stadium. The Wolfpack improve to 2-4 on the season, and the Buccaneers fall to 1-4.
The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half with the Wolfpack leading in the shot category 9-3.
King would get the offense going early in the second period, scoring his first goal less than five minutes into the half. Defender Chiedu Chukwumah cleared the ball down to Bryant Salter on the right wing. Salter dribbled into the box and found King with a cross on the ground. King netted the score at the 48:24 mark.
Charleston Southern would answer, when Itayi Pondwa scored in the 55th minute to tie the game at 1-1.
King would once again put the Pack up by one in the 80th minute. King took a lob pass from fellow freshman Federico Peria and scored the goal at the 79:21 mark.
Charleston Southern would once again answer when Gavin Aquhart found the back of the net after a scramble in the box and tied the score at 2-2 at the 80:51 mark. The score would remain that way into overtime.
Just over three minutes into the extra frame King would score his third goal of the day and give the Wolfpack the victory. Junior Isreal Mejia played a long ball to King that led to a breakaway. King saw the Buccanner's keeper off his line and chipped the ball into the net from about 18 yards out.
Jack Ward had a busy day in net for Charleston Southern registering 14 saves. Mitchell Watson finished the game with five saves.
NC State travels to Clemson this weekend for an ACC battle against the Tigers on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.
