Former NC State wide receiver Gavin Locklear has served in various roles on the Wolfpack staff for the past seven years, but is in his first season as a full-time assistant coach.
PLAYING EXPERIENCE: Originally walked on at NC State but was awarded a scholarship prior to the 2016 season. Co-recipient of the team’s Ken McNeill Iron Wolf Award, which is awarded annually to the player who makes the greatest comeback from injury.
EDUCATION: Earned his degree in sports management from NC State in 2017.
PERSONAL DATA: Native of Apex, N.C., he attended Apex High School.

Coaching Highlights
- Help coach ACC Rookie of the Year KC Concepcion to more receptions (64) and more receiving TDs (10) than any freshman in school history.
- Wolfpack quarterback Brennan Armstrong tallied 544 rushing yards in 2023, a mark that is a new school record for rushing by a QB in a single season. Armstrong broke the previous mark set by Jacoby Brissett in 2014.
- 2025 Wolfpack offense enjoyed great success inside the opponent’s 10-yard line. NC State went 24-for-25 inside the 10-yard line (19 TDs, 5 FG). In 25 trips inside the 10, the Pack has scored 24 times (19 touchdowns and five field goals).
