It’s all about THE TEAM! That’s how Associate Athletic Director Bob Erickson describes facility management. He leads a group of dedicated, talented, and hardworking facility and turf & grounds managers but is quick to point out that managing NC State Athletics facilities wouldn’t be possible without the support of our campus and industry partners. It’s a synergy of all of these groups that keeps our Athletic Department facilities operating and improving. Erickson came to NC State in 2004 from Prestonwood Country Club in Cary, NC where he was a Certified Golf Course Superintendent. Initially, he held a joint position between NC State Athletics and NC State’s Crop Science Department. He oversaw the short game facility for NC State’s golf teams and was instrumental in the development of the nationally and internationally recognized Lake Wheeler Road Turfgrass field lab for the Crop Science Department. In 2012, he left the field lab to focus on his work with the Athletic Department. Two years later, he was awarded NC State's Chancellor’s Unit Award for Excellence for work with the men’s and women's golf teams. In 2015, he was elevated to Assistant Athletic Director and assumed responsibility for all campus Athletic Department facilities and turf & grounds. All football facilities were added to his duties in June of 2023, which included Carter-Finley Stadium, the Murphy Football Center, Towne Bank Center, Close-King indoor practice facility, and the outdoor practice facility. In June, 2024, Erickson was promoted to Associate Athletic Director for Facility Management, Operations, and Special Projects. He provides daily leadership and oversight of all NC State Athletics facilities in support of 22 varsity sports.
A native of Madison, Wisconsin, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from the University of Wisconsin. He currently sits on NC State University’s Safety Committee and Athletic Department Sustainability Committee, and he guest lectures about facility management topics.
Bob has two sons, Nolan, a Junior at UNC-Charlotte, and Hayden, a junior at Leesville Road High School in Raleigh.
