RALEIGH – NC State women's basketball team's Khamil Pierre has been named an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention choice, as announced on Wednesday. This is Pierre's first AP All-America Honorable Mention nod and third time in her career she has received votes for an All-America team.
This marks the 13th time an NC State player has earned at least an Honorable Mention nod to the AP All-America team.
Pierre was recognized as an All-ACC First Team selection and a finalist for the Katrina McClain Power Forward of the Year award. She is averaging 16.8 points and a career-high 12.0 rebounds per game with 52.6 percent shooting from the field (220-418). Pierre has earned 28 double-digit scoring games and is on a 25-game 10+ point streak, which is the second most by an NC State player this century. She also has 22 double-digit rebounding games, nine 20+ point games and 21 double-doubles this year. Her 21 double-doubles is tied for the second most in school history and most since Khadijah Whittington, who had 24 in 2007-08. Pierre also holds the third most rebounds in a single season in school history with 360.
Pierre leads the league in double-doubles and rebounds per game, which are third and sixth, respectively, in the NCAA. She is fifth in scoring and sixth in field goal percentage in the ACC. In ACC play, Pierre averaged 17.9 points and 11.4 boards per game on 54.5 percent shooting from the field (146-of-268), while also tallying 10 double-doubles in the past 11 games.
Across her career, Pierre has 1,450 points, 843 rebounds, 133 assists and 160 steals. She also has 73 double-digit scoring games, 44 double-digit rebounding games, 26 20+ point games and 42 double-doubles, the 33rd most among active DI players as only a junior. Across the past two years, her 38 double-doubles in that stretch mark the most among active Power 4 players.
The No. 7 seed Pack is set to play the No. 10 seed Tennessee for the NCAA Tournament First Round on Friday, March 20 at 8 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN. This marks a rematch between the two teams who opened up the season at the Ro Greensboro Invitational, as NC State won 80-77.
