No. 14 NC State Routs Richmond 27-0
2/24/2026 8:30:00 PM | Baseball
The 27 runs are the most by a Wolfpack (6-1) team has put up since 2010, when NC State set a program record 32 runs against LaSalle. The Pack's 22 hits are the most since 2022.
It was a career and a day of firsts for many Pack players. Dalton Bargo led the way with a five-RBI day, tying a career high after hitting his fourth home run of the season and going 4-6. Mikey Ryan, Ty Head, and Chris McHugh all homered in the second inning. It was Ryan's first career home run.
Freshmen Vincent DeCarlo, Quinn Bentley, and Christian Serrano all came into the game and recorded their first RBIs with the Pack. DeCarlo had a three-RBI night, which included a bases-loaded single in his first collegiate at-bat with the Wolfpack.
The Wolfpack scored three or more runs in all but two innings.
NC State got a stellar start from Andrews (1-0). Andrews went six innings, allowing no runs and only one hit, with two walks and eight strikeouts. Sam Harris and Danny Heintz followed, allowing only one base runner between them. Sam Harris went a season-high two innings with four strikeouts.
This was the fourth straight game the Wolfpack has recorded double-digit strikeouts. In 36 innings this season, NC State starters have a 1.25 ERA, 43 strikeouts, and just 8 walks. Opposing hitters are batting just .181.
The bullpen has been just as dominant, posting a 1.80 ERA over 25 innings with 38 strikeouts, 13 walks, and a .133 opposing batting average.
The first six runs for the Wolfpack came in the first two innings, all via home runs. Bargo hit a three-run shot in the first, and in the second, solo homers from Ryan, Head, and McHugh made it 6-0. Head and McHugh went back-to-back. The Wolfpack is outscoring its opponents 16-2 in the first two innings.
McHugh has now hit safely in all seven games this season and has a team-leading four multi-hit games.
Four of the Wolfpack's six wins this season have seen the offense score more than 10 runs. NC State scored nine runs in the bottom of the sixth inning alone. Wyatt Peifer started the inning with a walk and later scored on a Rett Johnson double. Bargo singled in two runs, and Sherman Johnson followed with an RBI single. The hit parade continued with Bentley and DeCarlo adding two more hits and three runs batted in.
Wolfpack hitters were 22-45 (.489), 13-21 (.619) with two outs, 15-24 (.625) with runners on base, 8-9 (.889) with runners on third and less than two outs, and 1.000 (5-5) with the bases loaded.
The Wolfpack is back in action tomorrow, Wednesday, Feb. 25th, at the Doak, taking on Akron at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra.
