RALEIGH – The No. 25 NC State women's basketball soared to an 80-45 win over Campbell on Wednesday to start the season 2-0 for the first time since the 2023-24 season. NC State earned its 1,100th program win, becoming the 20th program in the NCAA Division I to reach the milestone.
NC State snatched 20 steals, the most since Nov. 12 2021, against Wofford, while logging 24 points off turnovers. The Pack dominated in points in the paint (58-26) and fast break points (31-2), while also winning the battle in bench points (24-15) and second-chance points (18-8). NC State shot 49 percent from the field (33-of-67).
Khamil Pierre led the Pack with 21 points off 9-of-15 shooting from the field and 11 rebounds, three steals and two blocks. She surpassed 1,500 points in her career as well. Three guards logged five assists apiece, with Desiree Wooten, Ky'She Lunan and Zoe Brooks, tallying 15 of the team's 19.
Brooks added 16 points and five assists, while freshman Annsley Trivette scored her first double-digit point game with 10 points.
NC State will play No. 14 Kentucky at the Ally Tipoff at the Spectrum Center on Sunday, Nov. 8 at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
Head Coach Wes Moore Opening Statement Postgame
"Of course, it was a little bit of a slow start there at first, probably midway through the first quarter, second quarter. Obviously, we gave up sixteen points in the first quarter, so that wasn't great, but we were able to come back and hold them to seven in the second and six in the third. From that standpoint, it's pretty good.
Our post defense needs some work. We're gonna have a real test Sunday. So, we're gonna have to figure some things out in a hurry. I did like the fact that our three starting guards, Desiree Wooteen, Ky'She Lunan and Zoe Brooks all had five assists, and that's what you want out of those people.
I love Zoe scoring, or whoever, but you also have to get everybody else involved. I thought they did a great job of that, but like I said, we had trouble too the way we were defending on the ball to start the game. We had to switch that up.
So we have a lot of stuff to figure out, but this is kind of what we wanted. We played a couple exhibitions and a scrimmage. We played these two games and now we've got a real big test. Kentucky's great team. Kenny Brooks, obviously, very familiar with him, he does an awesome job. It's a big challenge and a big opportunity, so we're excited about it."
