RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State women's soccer was shut out for the first time this season, falling 1-0 to Pitt on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Neither team found the back of the net in the first half, with the Wolfpack outshooting Pitt, 6-3. Fien Leijdekker had the best chance of the half for the home side, finding the back of the net on a breakaway before the goal was ruled offside.
The teams traded chances in the second half, with Amor Leigh Martin Esteban keeping the Panthers off the board until the 67th minute, when Desiree Reed broke the deadlock to give Pitt a 1-0 lead.
The Wolfpack had several late chances to equalize, including a shot from well outside the box by Erica Roberts that narrowly missed the goal and a header by Carly Montgomery off a corner kick that sailed just over the crossbar. However, the Pack could not find an equalizer as Pitt held on for the 1-0 win.
