
Four Finish with Double-Digit Kills in Five Set Loss to Old Dominion

RICHMOND, Va. – The NC State volleyball team fell to Old Dominion in a five-set battle Sunday afternoon at the VCU Invite in Richmond, Va.
The Wolfpack concludes non-conference play 7-3.

The Wolfpack will begin conference play on the road at Duke on September 26 at 6:30pm at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

- The Monarchs started off strong, taking a 5-0 lead to force an early timeout by head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney. The Wolfpack continued to struggle offensively but eventually tied the opening set 21-all. Old Dominion went on to take the first set, 25-22.
- The Wolfpack opened the second set by scoring six unanswered points to force an early Monarch timeout. NC State increased its lead to 10 (16-6), after the Monarchs couldn't slow the offensive power of the Pack.
- Three freshman – Jordan Smith, Sa'Mya Dorsey, and Rebecca Ring – were all hitting over .550 midway through the second set as the squad continued to control the frame.
- NC State out-hit the Monarchs by .396 in the second set after finishing with a team hitting percentage of .425. The Pack took the frame, 25-12 to even the match one-all.
- The third set was a battle for the two programs as they exchanged points, with neither team leading by more than one until a 5-0 scoring run (13-9) by NC State stunned the Monarchs.
- Freshman middle blocker Talia Francom led the defensive efforts throughout the third as she tallied two solo blocks in addition to one assisted before the frame concluded. She also tallied half a dozen kills on the match as the Pack continued to maintain its lead.
- NC State took the third set, 25-20 and gained the overall lead, 2-1.
- The fourth set was competitive with neither team leading by more than three points. The end of the frame saw one match point and two set points before the Monarchs ended up taking the fourth, 28-26.
- The fifth was a back-and-forth battle but it was the Monarchs who reached eight points first. After Old Dominion took a two-point lead, 9-7, Wargo-Kearney used her first timeout of the set to regroup the Pack.
- Old Dominion continued to lead, 13-10, forcing the Pack to use its final timeout. Despite the Wolfpack tying it 13-all, the Monarchs came out on top, 15-13.
- Four members of the Pack finished with double-digit kills: Bryant (19), Smith (13), ring (13), Francom (10).
- Francom also tied her career high of eight blocks.
- Francom and Bryant each earned All-Tournament team for their performance throughout the weekend.
