
Smith Paces Pack in Five Set Win over Green Bay to Open the Season 3-0

RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State volleyball team defeated Green Bay, 3-2, in a Saturday evening thriller at Reynolds Coliseum for the squad's final match of the Summit Hospitality Tournament.
Head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney became the fourth coach in program history, and first since 2010, to open the season 3-0 in their first season at the helm of the program.
NC State 3, Green Bay 2
The Pack heads to Manhattan, Kansas for its first road test of the season. NC State will face Kansas State on Wednesday, September 3 at 7:30pm for the first game of the Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas Classic.

NC State 3, Green Bay 2
- The Pack took an 8-2 lead to open the match and forced an early Green Bay timeout. The Phoenix battled back and stunned the Pack, eventually taking the first set 25-19.
- It was a battle from the first point as Green Bay jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second set. The Pack battled throughout, with freshman Jordan Smith leading the way with four kills as NC State took set two, 25-23, to even the match.
- Katie Schulz entered the third set with 10 kills for Green Bay and continued to lead them offensively. The Phoenix controlled the third set from the first point and came out on top, 25-20.
- NC State continued to battle and took a 2-1 lead to open the fourth set. Despite the Phoenix tying things up and eventually taking a lead, the Wolfpack never backed down.
- Freshman opposite Jordan Smith paced NC State in the fourth with six kills while fellow freshman Rebecca Ring, an outside hitter, added four of her own.
- Senior Courtney Bryant was behind the service line for four consecutive points to end the fourth set with NC State on top, 25-15.
- The fifth set was tied on 13 different occasions and featured seven lead changes throughout. It was an all-out effort for the Wolfpack as the Phoenix continued to fight back, but NC State came out victorious, 15-13.
- Smith led the Wolfpack with 15 kills while Ring added 10. Senior middle blocker Lily Cropper led the defensive efforts with four blocks and freshman libero Zuzia Maciejewicz added 26 digs. Bryant tallied four service aces in the outing.
- The win marks the third this season and under Wargo-Kearney. It also marked the 819th win in program history and the first win over Green Bay.
