Pack Moves On to NCAA Second Round at Home

RALEIGH – The eighth-ranked and ninth-seeded NC State men's tennis team swept South Carolina State at home Saturday afternoon to advance to the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The Pack is back in action tomorrow, Sunday, May 4 at 2 p.m. to face Georgia.

With a dominant first-round win over South Carolina State, NC State advances to the NCAA Round of 32 for the fifth time under head coach Kyle Spencer. The victory also marks the squad's 21st win of the season, making it the first season with at least 21 wins under Spencer, as well as the first time the program has done so since 2007.

A doubles shakeup proved to be no issue for the Pack with known duos Jules Leroux and Luca Staeheli holding down court one and Martin Borisiouk and Nikolay Nedelchev on court two. William Manning and Fons Van Sambeek paired up for the first time on court three and took the first doubles win of the day without allowing their opponents to score a game. Borisiouk and Nedelchev clinched the point for their team while Leroux and Staeheli also held a lead at the top of the lineup.

In singles, freshman Nedelchev cruised through his match in two sets to extend the Pack's lead on the scoreboard. 91st-ranked Staeheli followed right behind him on court two with straight sets to put the red-and-white in reaching distance of the advancement.

Ultimately, it was Leroux who clinched the match for the Wolfpack. He showcased a stellar first set performance claiming the set 6-4 after being down 1-4. A 6-2 win in the second set sealed the deal for his team to play at home one last time.
