LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Headlined by NC State wrestling alumnus Trent Hidlay winning the Senior Freestyle 92kg bracket, between former, current, and future Wolfpack wrestlers, eight landed on the podium at the 2025 U.S. Open in Las Vegas over the weekend.
Representatives of NC State wrestling delivered a strong showing at the highly competitive U.S. Open tournament over the weekend at The Expo at World Market Center in Las Vegas across five days of competition.
Between former, current, and future athletes of the Pack program, 12 wrestled in the tournament while eight of those guys found a place on the podium in their respective weight bracket. Two alumni (Trent Hidlay and Michael Macchiavello) and one incoming freshman commit (Will Denny) earned placements in the top-three.
Six-year member of the Pack (class of '24) Trent Hidlay earned the title of U.S. Open Champion after dominating the 92kg field, punching his ticket to Final X in June, a series that determines the U.S. Senior World/Olympic Team. After graduating from NC State in 2024, he joined the Wolfpack RTC to continue his wrestling career in Raleigh.
