#5 Pack Falls to #1 Wake Forest, Shatters Attendance Record

RALEIGH – Fifth-ranked NC State men's tennis (20-5, 12-1) drops heartbreaker to undefeated Wake Forest (33-0, 13-0) Saturday night by a 2-4 score. With nearly 1,300 fans in attendance at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center, the attendance record was shattered.
In the highly anticipated match-up to determine the crowning of the ACC regular season title, 1,294 fans were in attendance for the meeting.
Finishing the regular season with a 12-1 record in conference play sets a new record in program history for most ACC wins in a single season for the Pack.
In doubles, Martin Borisiouk and Nikolay Nedelchev teamed up for the first time and took down their opponents on court three 6-4.
The highlight of the night for NC State was junior No. 32 Martin Borisouk dominating No. 6 DK Suresh Ekambaram in straight sets on court two for singles, marking the second highest ranked win of his career.
On court three, senior No. 89 Luca Staeheli also posted an impressive performance with a 6-4, 6-2 win over No. 105 Ioannis Xilas to keep the Pack alive.
However, losses on courts one, four, and five, as well as losing the doubles point, made it difficult for the Wolfpack to complete the comeback.
Up Next
NC State takes the No. 2 seed at the ACC Tournament next week. The Pack is set to play in the quarterfinal round on Friday, April 18 at 6 p.m. against either Duke, Miami, or Notre Dame at Cary Tennis Park in Cary N.C.
