Friday marked the second straight home game, NC State overcame a five-run deficit after overcoming a six-run deficit against Virginia on Sunday.
The first win against a ranked opponent this season, NC State (23-11,8-5), worked 16 walks while only striking out twice. The offense saw hits from eight starters and was led by catcher Alex Sosa, who had a three-hit night, which included two doubles, two RBIs, three runs, and three walks. Ty Head and Luke Nixon each had three RBI nights, while Matt Heavner, although he didn't record a hit, added to his nation-leading sacrifice bunt total with two, to give him 14 this season while adding an RBI.
Camden Wimbish (1-0) picks up his first career win after coming on in relief. He went one inning, allowing one run on two hits with two strikeouts. After Louisville put up 11 runs in the first five innings, they were held scoreless by Jacob Dudan (3), who got his third save of the season after throwing four innings, allowing just one base runner with four strikeouts.
The first comeback of the night came with the Pack down 7-2. In the bottom of the fourth, NC State scored seven runs on five hits to take a 9-7 lead. The lead didn't last long as the Cardinals responded with four in the fifth to go up 11-9.
The deficit didn't deter the Wolfpack, as they once again responded with three runs to take a one-run advantage into the sixth. Insurance came in the bottom of the eighth as a leadoff walk came home to score from a wild pitch.
Dominic Fritton started on the mound but only lasted 2.2 innings, allowing six runs on five hits with three walks and three strikeouts. Matt Willadsen came on for the sixth time this season and threw 1.1 innings of work, giving up four runs on three hits.
Casen Murphy got the loss for Louisville (0-1). In two innings, he allowed three runs. Cardinal starter Patrick Forbes went three innings, gave up two runs on one hit, but had seven walks with no strikeouts.
