
Women’s Golf to Play at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C. - The NC State women's golf team is back in action this week after winning its first tournament since 2017. The Pack will play at the Briar's Creek Invitational at the Golf Cub at Briar's Creek in John's Island, South Carolina. Due to weather, the Pack will begin play on Sunday, March 9 and resume for the final round on Tuesday, March 11.
This tournament will feature two rounds for 36 holes on Sunday and the final round on Tuesday. The teams will have a 10 a.m. shotgun start on a course that is a par 72, 6,152 yards. NC State is one of 17 teams in the field, which features six top 50 teams, including NC State and three other ACC teams in Florida State, Miami and SMU.
Marie Eline Madsen is in the No. 1 spot, leading the Pack with a 70.58 scoring average with seven rounds in the 60s and 12 rounds at par or better. She has finished in the top 20 in all six tournaments as a freshman with five top 10 showings. Madsen is coming off her best showing with a runner-up showing at the Daniel Island Invitational with an 11-under 205 (67-66-72). She is No. 40 in the Scoreboard by Clippd Ranking.
Lauren Olivares Leon is in the No. 2 spot. She has the second lowest scoring average at 72.28 and has 10 rounds at par or under and two rounds in the 60s. She is coming off an 11th place finish at the Daniel Island Invitational with a 2-under 214 (72-72-70). Olivares Leon is No. 77 in the Scoreboard by Clippd Ranking and No. 52 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Vania Simont is playing in her seventh tournament, one of three on the team to play in all tournaments this season. She is registering a 74.67 scoring average with four rounds at par or better and one round in the 60s. Simont is coming off one of the best performances in her career at the Daniel Island Invitational, in which she logged a 6-under 210 (69-70-71).
Jaclyn Kenzel is making her fourth tournament appearance this season. She is logging a 76.89 scoring average with two rounds at par or better. The graduate is coming off one of the best performances of her career with a 2-over 218 (72-74-72) to tie for 15th, a career best, at the Daniel Island Invitational.
Caitlin Whitehead wraps up the lineup and is making her fifth tournament appearance, second straight. The senior has a 76.00 scoring average. She is coming off a tie for 52nd with a 15-over 231 (74-80-77) at the Daniel Island Invitational.
Ellise Rymer will play as the team's individual. She has played in four tournaments and has a 75.08 scoring average with two rounds at par or better. Her best performance of the season came at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, in which she had a 7-over 217 (76-71-70) to tie for 19th.
