RALEIGH – Nikki West, the associate head coach of the No. 9/9 NC State women's basketball team, has been announced on the Advancement of Blacks in Sports (ABIS) Women's Basketball Assistant Coaches Watchlist, as announced on Friday.
West is one of five coaches named to the watch list, which recognizes the top Black men and women head and assistant coaches from across the country in multiple sports. Those nominated are considered to be this year's most deserving, qualified and prepared Black coaches in college and professional sports.
Coach West has been a part of Wes Moore's staff for nearing 20 years after following him to NC State from Chattanooga. She has been at NC State for 10 years and serves as the associate head coach for eight of those seasons. West has helped the program post 250+ wins and over 100 wins in ACC contests. She has been a part of guiding NC State to postseason invitations each year, including eight NCAA Tournament appearances, four Sweet 16 berths, two Elite Eight appearances and the program's first Final Four in 2024. With her assistance, the Pack has put together nine 20+ win campaigns and seven top-four ACC finishes.
West plays a huge role with the post players and has been pivotal in the development of numerous top post players at NC State. She has helped underclassmen Tilda Trygger, Lorena Awou and Mallory Collier take huge strides in their development, highlighted by Trygger earning a spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team.
Coach West and the Pack will play Vermont for the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday at 2 p.m. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
