TULSA, Okla. – After enduring back-to-back losses to top-10 opponents, NC State wrestling has concluded its time at the inaugural National Duals Invitational.
After an ecstatic morning dual, taking out No. 14 Northern Iowa, in the opening round of the tournament, a heavy loss to fifth-ranked Oklahoma State in the quarter-finals dampered spirits for the Pack.
Reigning ACC Champion and All-American at 174 lbs, Matty Singleton was one of the two members of the Pack to win all three of his matches on Saturday at the BOK Center. All three matches were against ranked opponents, which included a top-10 win over Jared Simma of Northern Iowa and a win by fall over Alex Facundo of Oklahoma State. Koy Buesgens at 149 lbs, also had a successful day facing two top-ranked opponents, defeating No. 14 Caleb Rathjen of Northern Iowa in sudden victory, followed by a physically brutal 2-1 match with Oklahoma State's No. 3 Casey Swiderski.
Reigning national champion at 125 lbs, Vincent Robinson had a rematch of his championship match against Oklahoma State's No. 2 Troy Spratley to start the dual between the Wolfpack and the Cowboys. Yet again, the decision was extremely tight, but Robinson was able to improve to 3-0 over Spratley.
At 149 lbs, Koy Buesgens had a drama-filled bout with No. 3 Casey Swiderski, who earned All-American status with Iowa State in 2024. Edging him out 2-1, the win marks Buesgens' highest-ever ranked win.
The Pack lost energy after the hard-fought dual with Oklahoma State, leading to a disappointing loss to conference rival Virginia Tech. Ryan Jack and Singleton each picked up ranked wins at their respective weights.
