
Olivares Leon Invited to Play at Augusta Women’s National Amateur

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's golf senior Lauren Olivares Leon has been selected to play at the Augusta Women's National Amateur. The Celaya, Mexico native is one of 72 amateurs worldwide invited to play at one of the biggest stages in amateur golf.
The ANWA is in its sixth year after debuting in 2019, and Olivares Leon is the first NC State women's golfer invited to play at the prestigious event.
Olivares Leon will play in her first ANWA during the first week of April. The first two rounds will be played from April 2-3 at Champions Retreat Golf Club and after a cut, the leading 30 players plus ties will have the opportunity to play the final round at Augusta National Golf Club. Coverage of the first two days of the event will be broadcast on the Golf Channel, and the final round will be covered on NBC Sports.
Olivares Leon is ranked No. 50 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings. She finished the fall with a 72.92 scoring average and two top 20 finishes. Olivares Leon wrapped up the fall season on a high note by tying for the title at the Landfall Tradition with a 6-under 210 (69-70-71). At NC State, Olivares Leon, who was an All-ACC Women's Golf Team honoree, holds the single-season record in scoring average (72.18) after finishing her junior year with 13 rounds at par or better and six rounds in the 60s. She also broke the NCAA single round record with a 60 in the second round of the Cougar Classic in the fall of 2023.
Olivares Leon and NC State will be back in action in the spring for the Collegiate Invitational from Jan. 31 to Feb.1 at Guadalajara Country Club.
