Wolfpack Advance To The Second Round of The NCAA Tournament After 4-0 Sweep Over UNCW

RALEIGH N.C.- NC State men's tennis will advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after taking down UNCW 4-0 in Raleigh. The No. 14 Wolfpack hosted No. 57 UNCW Friday, May 3 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The Wolfpack took the home court advantage and secured it's place in the second round after a 4-0 sweep over the Seahawks
In doubles play the underdogs Seahawks put the pressure on the Pack but came up short 2-1. Damien Salvestre and Luca Staheli made an appearance on court one for the first time this season showcasing their chemistry with a quick 6-3 win over No. 61 Reece Falck and Harold Huens putting the Pack in scoring position.
Duo Braden Shick and Fons Van Sambeek fought a hard 7-5 battle on court five, with opponents Gabe Hurtado and Trey Mallory, who managed to slip through the cracks to get the only Seahawk doubles win.
Senior Robin Catry and Joe Wayand made their first appearance of the season as a doubles pair on court three clinching the doubles point over opponents Bek Rasamatov & Drew Broadstreet (UNCW) with a 6-7 (5-7) tie break
In singles play, Jakub Katuch and Damien Salvestre took their first sets 6-1 over their Seahawk opponents. Both put points on the board for the Pack with Salvestre finishing first on court five 6-1, 6-0 and Katuch following second 6-1, 6-0. With the Seahawks taking the lead on courts one, and four in the first set. The Pack pushed forward with the second round in sight. Rounding out singles, No. 123 Luca Staheli solidified the Pack with a 2 set win over Reece Falck 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the match and send his team into the second round.
