DALLAS, TEXAS – NC State junior Joey Lenane led the Pack with a six-under par performance as the Pack finished 12th at the Trinity Forest Invitational held at Trinity Forest Golf Club.
Lenane opened the tournament by firing a six-under par 66. The round featured six birdies and no bogeys as Lenane's opening 18 holes marked a collegiate-low for him. The Dedham, Mass., native followed up with a one-under par 71 in the second round before a one-over par 73 in the final round Tuesday to finish in a tie for 19th place out of 87 competitors.
Next for the Pack was freshman Michele Ferrero in a tie for 27th place, three shots back of Lenane. Ferrero shot par or better in all three rounds after shooting a two-under par 70 in the first round before an even-par 72 in the second round and a one-under par 71 in the final round.
The Turin, Italy native has now started his NC State career by finishing with a total score under par in both of his first two tournaments as part of the Pack.
Nick Mathews, fresh off opening the season with a win at the Rod Myers Invitational, could not duplicate his efforts in Dallas as he finished in a tie for 66th.
Freshman Hunter Stetson, competing in his first tournament as part of the NC State lineup, finished in a tie for 71st place, one shot back of Mathews.
Fellow freshman Xander Goboy, rebounded from a tough opening round to shoot a combined three-over par in the final 36 holes and finished in a tie for 80th place.
Playing as an individual, Michael Vick finished in a tie for 56th place with a total score of five-over par.
UNLV took home the team title with a two-shot win over Loyola Marymount while tournament-host SMU finished in third.
NC State returns to action Sunday, Oct. 20 when it begins play at the three-day, 54-hole Williams Cup held at Eagle Point Golf Club in Wilmington.
