
NC State blanks VCU, 4-0, sets up match with No. 8 South Carolina

Wolfpack and Gamecocks meet Sunday at 2 pm
The NC State men's tennis team is one win away from punching a ticket to the ITA indoor championships.
The Wolfpack picked up a win over VCU, 4-0, in its first game of the ITA Kickoff Weekend in South Carolina.
NC State (3-2) advances to face host South Carolina at 2 pm on Sunday. The No. 8 Gamecocks (4-0) defeated Penn 4-0 in the first game of the day on Saturday. The Wolfpack defeated South Carolina in Raleigh a year ago, 4-1.
Doubles (NC State, 1-0)
The Rams got the first win of the day in doubles action, when Joaquim De Almeida and Romain Gales defeated Martin Borisiouk and Joseph Wayland, 6-3.
The duo of Martins Rocen and Fons Van Sambeek, ranked No. 38 in the country, got the momentum back for NC State, winning 6-2. Robin Catry and Luca Staeheli wrapped things up with a 6-4 ranked win over No. 29 Rayane Stable and Matisse Bobichon.
Singles (NC State, 3-0)
There was plenty of drama in singles play, but NC State managed to get the better of VCU and pull it out.
Bobichon, the No. 40 player in the country, pushed Rocens to a third set on court one, but the match never finished. Catry and Staeheli carried over their hot hands from doubles play, winning their singles matches in two sets. Catry defeated Maxence Bertimon 6-4, 6-4 and Staeheli beat Joaquim Almeida 6-2, 6-4.
On court four, Braden Shick put a bow on the match, defeating Stable 7-5, 7-6 (9-7).
