NC State Triumphs Over Auburn and Kentucky In Tri-Meet

AUBURN, Ala. – The NC State men's and women's swimming and diving teams cruised past Auburn and Kentucky in Friday night's session, securing easy wins on both sides. The Wolfpack men finished with 184 points over Auburn's 111 and 194 points over Kentucky's 101. On the women's side, NC State wrapped up the night with 187 points to Auburn's 111 and 180 to Kentucky's 118 points.
The victory marks the third in a row after both Pack squads defeated UNC and Tennessee in dual meets last week.
The Wolfpack men highlighted the top of the results with a stunning seven podium sweeps over the evening. In total, they dropped just one event en route to their victory, proving the impressive depth and speed of the squad.
The women of NC State dropped just four races on their quest for victory, highlighted by several multi-event winners. The first-place points were spread between eight NC State individuals and were supplemented by many second and third place finishes, along with two winning relays.
MEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
The distance trio of James Plage, Will Gallant, and Ross Dant started the evening of sweeps by finishing first, second and third in the first individual event of the evening, the 1000-yard freestyle, with times of 9:00.34 (Plage), 9:02.72 (Gallant), and 9:02.81 (Dant).
In the men's 200-yard freestyle, Luke Miller (1:34.95), Bartosz Piszczorowicz (1:36.91) and rookie Sam Hoover (1:37.54) continued the sweep streak with their top three finishes.
The 200-yard butterfly podium was claimed by Noah Henderson (1:45.05), Noah Bowers (1:45.76) and Zach Brown (1:46.71), while Hoover claimed his first collegiate victory in the 100-yard freestyle (43.78), closely followed by Miller (43.88) and Piszczorowicz (43.97).
The distance quartet of Dant, Plage, Gallant and Eric Knowles out-swam all of their competition in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing 4:22.23 (Dant), 4:23.17 (Plage), 4:24.36 (Gallant), and 4:28.45 (Knowles).
The domination extended with 1-2-3 finishes in the men's 100-yard butterfly, led by Nyls Korstanje's time of 46.24 seconds. He was closely followed by Henderson (46.87) and freshman Aiden Hayes (48.36) to finish out the top three.
The Wolfpack triad of Michael Moore, Bowers, and Hoover rounded out the evening by cruising to the top three spots in the 200-yard IM. Moore finished with a time of 1:47.63, while Bowers went 1:48.86 and Hoover finished the race with a 1:50.00.
WOMEN'S HIGHLIGHTS:
Kylee Alons finished the night with three individual victories alongside a top finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. She took the 50-yard freestyle with a speedy 22.61, the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.40 and grabbed the 100-yard butterfly going 52.75, just ahead of training partner Abby Arens' 52.97.
Defending NCAA Champion Sophie Hansson grabbed the 100 (59.11) and 200 (2:10.25) breaststrokes, in addition to splitting a 26.95 on the breaststroke leg of the 200-yard medley relay (1:37.34).
Katharine Berkoff extended her season sweep of the backstroke events by racing to put her hand on the wall in both the 100 and 200. She finished the 100-yard race with a time of 51.85 and the 200-yard backstroke with a 1:53.73, almost three seconds ahead of teammate and second place finisher, Kate Moore (1:56.65).
RELAY HIGHLIGHTS:
The women's foursome of Berkoff, Hansson, Arens and Heather Maccausland took the 200-yard medley relay from the field with a time of 1:37.34, over two seconds ahead of Auburn's second place finish. In the men's race, Hayes, Rafal Kusto, Korstanje and David Curtiss took the same event with a quick 1:25.93 just in front of Auburn's 1:26.79.
NC State finished off the evening of victories with wins in both the women's and men's 400-yard freestyle relay. The women's squad of Berkoff, Alons, Elle Giesler and Abbey Webb combined to put up a 3:18.76. Miller, Hunter Tapp, Piszczorowicz and Korstanje swam a 2:52.79 in the 400-yard freestyle relay to end the evening with yet another first place finish.
DIVING HIGHLIGHTS:
Helene Synnott finished the women's one-meter in second place with 272.05 points, while teammate Ashton Zuburg grabbed the runner up spot in the women's three-meter with 278.65 points.

NC State returns to the pool Saturday morning as they compete with Auburn and Kentucky in a lineup of nontraditional exhibition events, beginning at 10 a.m. EST. The Wolfpack resumes competition on Nov. 18 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center as it hosts the NC State/GAC Invitational.
