
Pack Drop Hard Fought Match to UC Santa Barbara, 3-1

RICHMOND, Va. – Down 2-0, the NC State volleyball team (2-2) fought to a third set victory but was unable to hang on in the fourth, dropping a 3-1 (17-25, 23-25, 25-23, 22-25) match up against UC Santa Barbara (3-1). Melissa Evans led the Pack with 14 kills, followed by Jessica Kemp's 11.
After dropping the first set, the Pack came out strong and kept up with UC Santa Barbara holding within one, 11-10. UCSB took a 15-10 lead with three consecutive kills and a block but NC State took advantage of the Gauchos errors, outscoring them 8-2 over the next nine points for an 18-17 lead. Another run for UCSB pushed them ahead 22-18 and despite NC State narrowing the gap, 24-23, the Gauchos came away with the set victory.
The Wolfpack pushed ahead in the third set, taking a 14-10 lead behind three kills from Evans. Following a timeout, UC Santa Barbara utilized their serving with two aces and four kills to take back the lead, 19-18. The Gauchos held onto the one point lead, moving the score to 23-22, before NC State notched three-straight points on kills from McDonald and Evans to take the set.
With the hopes of pushing it to a fifth set, NC State came back from a 5-1 deficit for an 8-7 lead. After the set was tied at 12, the Gauchos used another timely timeout followed by a 5-1 run that gave them an 18-14 lead. NC State was able to close the gap to one, 20-19, thanks to back-to-back kills from Kemp but the Gauchos ended the match with four-straight points.

- Both Sharpton and McDaniel tallied double-doubles. Sharpton totaled 15 assists and 12 digs in conjunction with McDaniel's 20 assists and 10 digs. It is the third 20+ assist performance for McDaniel in four matches.
- Kaylee Frazier, Sharpton, McDaniela and McDonald all had career-high digs. Frazier led the way with 21 while McDonald had four.
- Freshman Lydia Adam saw her first action on the court for NC State notching a kill in the third set.
