NC State Falls in Tight Battle with Oklahoma State

STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 35 NC State men's tennis team battled but ultimately fell at 30th-ranked Oklahoma State, 4-2, Friday evening at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
With the loss, NC State drops to 10-4 on the season, and the Cowboys improve to 9-4 on the year.
The Cowboys jumped out to an early lead in doubles action. Matej Vocel and Brady Draheim picked up Oklahoma State's first doubles win in a 6-0 decision over Tadas Babelis and Michael Ogden.
Mathieu Scaglia and Maxim Taylor, who are ranked 22nd in the nation in doubles, were up 5-0 over Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic. The Wolfpack brothers managed to fire off three straight games but ultimately fell 6-3 to the Cowboys duo.
Alexis Galarneau and Yannai Barkai found themselves up break with a 5-4 lead over Oklahoma State's Emile Hudd and Luke Hammond before play was halted on that court.
Babelis picked up the first singles victory of the outing as he beat Hammond on court four. The Wolfpack sophomore won by a 6-3, 6-3 score to even the team scores at one apiece.
The Cowboys regained a lead in the match as Tybar defeated Barkai 6-3, 6-4 on court three, and Oklahoma State would not trail again.
Draheim put the Cowboys a match away from the clinch with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Ivan on court six, but Igor fired back with a singles win of his own on court two. The Wolfpack senior came back from a set down to beat Scaglia 0-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Oklahoma State clinched on court one, where Vocel beat No. 25 Galarneau 6-3, 7-6 (2). Malyshev and Hudd were locked at one apiece in the third set after splitting their first two sets, but their match was left unfinished after the Cowboys clinched.
UP NEXT:
NC State will wrap up its weekend road trip on Sunday as it visits third-ranked Texas. The match against the Longhorns is set for a 2 p.m. EST start from the Texas Tennis Center.
