Wolfpack Completes Sweep Over Coastal Carolina

RALEIGH – The NC State men's tennis team improved to 6-0 on its season after defeating visiting Coastal Carolina by a 7-0 score Sunday afternoon at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.

"This weekend was great," said head coach Kyle Spencer. "We had the chance to put into play a lot of things from practice. I loved the energy that the guys brought. Playing at home is great. We had a big crowd out, so that was awesome. Continuing from Friday, they really are starting to understand what their identity is and that each guy is willing to sacrifice for the team. I love that, and we'll continue to get better each day in practice and take that into the matches."

The Pack captured the opening point by winning all three of its doubles matches.

NC State's Igor Saveljic and Ivan Saveljic matched up against Luiz Faria and Zak Talic on court two. The Wolfpack duo cruised to a 6-1 win, only allowing the Chanticleers to hold one of their service games.

Alexis Galarneau and Tadas Babelis paired up on court one to earn a 6-4 victory over Lawrence Perrin and Paul Boulay. Their win notched the doubles point in favor of the Wolfpack.

Play continued on court three, where NC State's Michael Ogden and Georgiy Malyshev battled back from a two-game deficit to take their match against Francesco Cori Gamero and Gonzalez Achondo by a 6-3 score.

Babelis got things started for the Wolfpack in singles. He defeated Zak Talic 6-1, 6-1 on court two.

Nineteenth-ranked Galarneau followed suit on court one, beating Coastal Carolina's Luiz Faria in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

The match clincher came from Malyshev on court four. The Wolfpack junior won the first set over Lawrence Perrin by a 6-3 score. Perrin held his first service game of the second set, but Malyshev won the next six games to take the second set 6-1.

Minutes later, Igor added another win for the Pack. He bested Gonzalez Achondo 6-3, 6-4 on court three. Ivan powered his way to a 6-2, 6-1 decision over Paul Boulay, and Robert Turzak completed the Wolfpack's sweep, winning 6-4, 6-3 against Juan Castellanos.

UP NEXT
NC State hits the road for a pair of matches in the state of Virginia. The Wolfpack is set to visit Old Dominion on Friday, Feb. 16 and then heads to take on VCU on Saturday, Feb. 17.
